Meet the folks behind the Ramen


Owner, Chef

Kayoko was born and raised in Osaka, Japan. Her parents owned and operated a department store leaving Kayoko to be the family cook at the age of eight. She met Matt in Japan in 1989, eloped in 1992, and moved to the US to start a family of her own. While bouncing back and forth between Asia and the US for Matt's job, she learned to taste and appreciate a wide range of ingredients, and acquired cooking skills in an equally wide range of technique. Kayoko now brings her incredible depth and breadth of cooking experience to the kitchen of Kayo's Ramen where she presents her signature ramens along with an eclectic mix of authentic and inspired Japanese food.

Matt has spent a considerable part of his adult life studying, living, working and bumming around Asia, dating back to 1984 where he studied Economics and Mandarin at Fudan University in Shanghai and culminating in a recent 2-year stint in Singapore as Managing Director for TriQuint Semiconductor (now Qorvo). Matt shares Kayoko's love and appreciation for good food, not to mention a personal penchant for well-crafted Northwest IPAs, and also brings deep business experience and an understanding of exceptional customer service to the dining room of Kayo's Ramen.
